About Spell It Out Photos
Owners of Spell It Out Photos, Sue Tenerowicz and Lynn McAuliffe, have made the process of making custom quote plaques simple and fun. First introduced to the art of making words from pictures in college, Sue kept noticing letters all around her. She began by taking photos of words that she wrote in sand or snow and now takes photos to share with others.
Lynn was inspired to share, too. During hikes and outdoor activities in California, she often came across interesting objects that she desired to collect. However, you can’t always haul everything back home. When she met Sue, she found a way to capture these items in photos.
Voted by Diablo Magazine as the Best Online Business of 2011, they have introduced several types of products that feature letters in photos. Using their website, I created my own custom quote plaque.
How to Design a Plaque
First you type in the word that you would like on your plaque. When you click on a letter, you are provided all of the photo options that match that letter. If you change your mind on a photo choice, you can easily swap out photos by clicking the letter again.
There are a variety of objects, architectural elements, and nature photos.
This is an example of the word “WIN” using photos. Once you have selected photos for each of the letters, you can see examples of how your word looks with material and frame options.
Quote plaques have several options for further customization. You can add a border and images such as a decorative filigree or graduation cap. Up to four lines of text may be added below the word and there are four font styles.

Our Virginia Home Quote Plaque
When I received my plaque, I was impressed with the packaging. It arrived inserted into a piece of protective foam which was glued to a sturdy piece of cardboard. There was no way the plaque could shift within the foam so it arrived safely. The glass plaque was mounted onto a piece of foam that had a hole for hanging. Although the plaque includes hardware for hanging, it’s thin enough that it would easily fit on a tabletop easel.

The resolution and colors of the letter photos turned out excellent. Although I chose to have my “VIRGINIA” quote plaque printed in color, there was an option to pick a septia tone or black and white.
