Making Our Home Together
“2.5 million tons – The amount of paper towels filling our landfills from regular tasks like cleaning kitchens.“
If this number sounds alarming to you, you are not alone. When moms Michelle and Karen learned of this number, they knew that there was a need for an environmentally-friendly cleaning cloth. Rather than using a sponge or many paper towels in the kitchen, the SKOY cloth provides a multi-use and biodegradable option.
SKOY cloths are made from natural cotton and wood-based cellulose pulp. Because they are 100% biodegradable, they breakdown within 5 weeks after disposal.
They are also chlorine-free, unbleached, and made with water-based colors and inks.
The SKOY cloth is designed to be machine and dryer safe.
Depending on how harsh your cleaning products are and what surfaces you have used it on, your SKOY cloth could last a year.
With normal detergent, a SKOY cloth will last approximately 50 wash cycles.
I used a SKOY cloth to clean my counter top and stainless steel sink. The cloth had little textured shapes on one side that helped with scrubbing some difficult spots. I also tried it on my flattop stove. Recently when taking meatloaf out of the oven, I forgot that one of the burners was still hot. Not only did I accidentally melt a tag attached to a potholder, but I also managed to spill sauce on the hot burner. I put the cloth to the test to see how well it would work when scrubbing the stain on the stove. Not only did it help remove some of the stain, it also did not appear to pull apart.
If you are interested in purchasing a SKOY Cloth, you can visit them online at www.skoycloth.com or visit your local Container Store. They also have a fundraising program for schools that would like to raise environmental awareness.
I learned skoj is a Swedish word – pronounced SKOY – that means just for fun!
These are a fabulous idea. We have gone from using paper towels to what we call “bar towels” and we then run a bleach load once a week to clean all of them and then reuse them. They have taken our paper towel usage from almost one a day down to one roll a week-10 days. My pocket book loves it! I will definitely check this kind out as well 🙂 Thanks for the info!
Skoy is washer and dishwasher safe
the SKOY cloth can last over 50 wash cycles if using a normal detergent
I learned they got their name from SKOY from a Swedish word that means “just for fun”.
According to EPA USA generates 250 million tons of trash per year, of which 28.5% was paper. That is more than 70 million tons of paper waste per year! WOW, just WOW! We have been using “unpaper towels for years now and I refuse to buy paper towels!
they are made of a cotton cellulose blend.. interesting.
Skoj (pronounced Skoy) is a Swedish word that means: “just for fun”!
Less paper waste reduces greenhouse gases in multiple ways (see EPA life cycle of materials):
a) reduces transportation required to haul goods/packages,
b) reduces energy needed to make goods/packages,
c) reduces fuel consumed in hauling waste to landfill, and
d) reduces methane in landfill from decomposing paper.
I learned it can be used with popular household cleaners, but works just as well with water. It also lasts a long time. Love them!
The skoy clothe can still be used after 50 cycles in the washer!
I learned that using less paper towels means using up less landfill resources- Paul Tran ….. emscout9 at Hotmail dot com

It’s also important to make sure the cloth is wet when put into microwave so a fire doesn’t start. I’d love to try these cloths. Thanks for the cool giveaway!
I like that we should microwave this to kill bacteria.
I learned that the SKOY can be cleaned in your dishwasher and is washer and dryer safe up to 90°C (190°F). Thanks.

SKOY cloth must be wet when microwaving for best effect and to avoid risk for fires.
It is made of natural materials to absorb liquids better than microfiber.
I learned that you can keep your SKOY cloth germ-free by microwaving it daily when damp for 1-2 minutes.
