Making Our Home Together
A portable garment steamer is an alternative to a traditional steam iron or dryer with a steam function. Especially when you are in a hurry or traveling, you can quickly remove wrinkles from your clothing.
We received the Hilife Portable Garment Steamer for the purpose of a review.
The reservoir holds up to 240mL of water. A plastic measurement cup, marked up to 250mL, will take the guesswork out of accurately filling the steamer. Also, there is a maximum fill line on the side of the unit. Overfilling can cause the water to spurt out of the steam nozzle.
The garment steamer should be unplugged before filling with water or attaching the brush accessory. The steam nozzle twists and then locks into place.
There is an ON/OFF switch that controls the heating element.
After approximately 2 minutes, the unit makes continuous steam.
A full reservoir (240mL of water) provides between 10-15 minutes of steam. Between water refills, the heating element requires a 15-minute cool-down period. In addition to unplugging the steamer, this step ensures that you will not burn yourself with hot water or steam.
I used the garment steamer on a pair of jeans and one of my husband’s work shirts.
It took multiple passes to smooth the most heavily wrinkled areas. However, it only took a few minutes to remove the wrinkles on each of the articles of clothing. Filling the reservoir once was enough to provide several minutes of continuous steam.
Sometimes, wrinkles are difficult to remove when ironing collars, pleated sections, or button areas. I found that the steamer made these areas quick and easy.
With a generous 9-foot cord, the portable garment steamer is the perfect solution for getting wrinkles out of curtains and bed skirts.
One of my favorite features of the Hilife portable garment steamer is its small size. It is easy to store on a shelf in our laundry area. A traditional ironing board is awkward and may be difficult to move around. It was convenient to take the steamer to the room where I keep my garment rack.
As a portable steamer, it easily fits into a suitcase for travel.
It takes approximately one hour to cool completely. A paper towel works well for drying water left in the reservoir.
If you tilt the steamer more than 35°, hot water will come out. The steam nozzle must remain upright.
The brush accessory helped me control the distance between the steam nozzle and clothing. This helped to minimize the need for tilting the steamer nozzle. In addition, it also minimizes water spots.
Once the ON button is selected, the unit will begin heating the water and release steam after 2 minutes. Unfortunately, after the water in the reservoir is heated, the steam releases automatically.
The off button will stop the steam temporarily. When you are ready to begin steaming again, it will take 30 seconds to 2 minutes to heat the water again.
There is no auto-off function or warning beep once the water gets too low.
Even for delicate fabrics, only one heat setting exists. However, in reviews, many people mentioned that it works on materials such as silk.
