Making Our Home Together
Beanitos aims to provide healthy bean-based foods and strives to provide snacks that have ingredients that are non-GMO. Established by Doug and Dave Foreman in 2010, Beanitos has quickly gained the attention of many supporters of corn-free and gluten-free snack foods.
Beanitos uses either black or pinto beans combined with whole grain rice or whole brown flaxseed. Home-baked chips are flash-fried in pure sunflower oil and sprinkled with sea salt. Beanitos are also free of corn, wheat, soy, potato, trans fat, and cholesterol.
As a high fiber and low glycemic alternative to regular packaged chips, Beanitos also offers many vitamins and minerals. With each serving, there are 4 grams of complete protein and Essential ALA Omega 3s.
If your diet requires that you decrease your salt intake, Beanitos have only 55 mg of salt per serving compared to 155 mg found in most chips.
Beanitos provided us with a case of their chips for a review.
There are four flavors of Beanitos: Chipotle BBQ, Pinto Bean & Flax Cheddar Cheese, Black Bean, and Pinto Bean & Flax.
I enjoyed having them available for snacks because I found that I was more interested in grabbing a bag of Beanitos over cookies and other unhealthy snacks. I noticed that they were more filling so I snacked less frequently in the afternoons.
When I first tried the Chipotle BBQ flavor, I thought they were slightly too hot. I had to drink something with them. However, the Chipotle BBQ flavor was my favorite because they tasted so much like regular BBQ chips.
The Pinto Bean & Flax with Cheddar Cheese was also very good. I love adding flaxseed to salads, so having them with each serving of chips was an added bonus. I intended to take a picture of the chips so that you could see the whole flaxseeds, but I ate them all! In addition to the cheddar cheese, you can taste a slight nutty flavor from the flaxseeds. Like the Chipotle BBQ, they were slightly spicy.
If you would prefer to not have the cheddar cheese flavor, there is also a plain Pinto Bean & Flax chip. Like the Black Bean & Sea Salt flavor, these go great with dip. We took part of the case to a friend’s house and everyone enjoyed them with spinach dip. They would taste good with salsa, too.
Each of the flavors of Beanitos were crunchy and filling. If you want a healthy snack and you’re trying to swap out unhealthy snacks from your diet, these are definitely worth trying.
In addition to having the option to purchase them on the Beanitos website at www.beanitos.com or Amazon, you can find them at health food stores such as Whole Foods.
