This month we added a 28″ Cat Tree and 52″ Cat Tree to our home. You can read our reviews here and here. With six cats, we need additional scratching posts to place in areas near furniture. I decided to try two of the 21″ Cat Scratching Posts from Chewy.
Assembling the 21″ Scratching Post
The post arrived in two sections with a plush center piece that goes between them. The base was folded so it could fit into the box. A washer and bolt are attached to the base and another bolt goes between the post sections. The assembly only took a few minutes.
What’s the quality like for this scratching post?
Unfortunately, the quality is bad enough that I am on the fence about returning the scratching posts. As you can see in the photos, there are staples exposed on the posts. The staples are all around the top, center, and base.
I think I might take the sisal rope off and rework it so the staples are not exposed and add a few dabs of hot glue.
Will this scratching post work with big cats?
They advertise that the scratching post is great for cats of all sizes. However, I knew when I purchased two of the scratching posts that it was likely I would need to add a larger base. Even for my 8lb cat, Meisha, the scratching posts will need to be placed in a corner for extra support.
