With over 2 billion pairs of footwear sold in America every year, only 1% are made in America. This is one reason why sandals by the Bufurd, Georgina based company called Okabashi stand out. Okabashi has sold over 25 millions pairs of sandals.
All Okabashi products are 100% recyclable, vegan, and made from 25% recycled materials. Sandals are made from domestically made raw color pellets. Any sandals that do not meet the requirements of final inspection or have been retired by previous customers, can be recycled into new sandals. With this practice in place, they are able to reintroduce over 100,000 pounds of material that would have otherwise been wasted.
I received a pair of Okabashi sandals for a review. When I first put on the sandals, I immediately noticed that the insole provides arch support. With flat feet and low arches, I need sandals that properly support the arch. This is also an important feature to prevent problems with my knees and back. The sandals also feature massage beads. These are two of the reasons that Okabashi sandals are endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association.
It took about a week to break in my sandals. The piece that goes in between my toes kept rubbing which made it difficult to walk. I was hopeful that the material would kind of change into the shape of my foot if I continued to wear them. I now have been wearing them everywhere and find them very comfortable.
I actually wore them in the garden and got them dirty and loved the fact that I could just rinse them off. They are designed to be dishwasher and washing machine safe.
I also like the fact that the material is thick enough that I don’t feel gravel under my feet and they stay in place as I walk. I often avoid certain types of sandals because I have problems catching rocks under my heel as I walk or they don’t provide enough protection to my feet.
Shoes by Okabashi come with a 2 year guarantee – something that I actually haven’t seen available for sandals before. In addition to the Maui sandals like I received, they have several styles that I would consider wearing. Most are available in several color options, too.
