Food for Life Ezekiel Bread and Sprouted Grain Pasta

From reading the Food for Life website, I learned that sprouted grains are often consumed by people that may have an intolerance to gluten. With enzymes, sprouted grains change gluten into a more digestive form. Grains used for baking products such as Ezekiel 4:9: Sprouted Grain Bread are made from organically grown whole grains. Sprouting of the grains provides more vitamins and minerals in comparison to flour.

Food for Life offers many sprouted grain products.

Ezekiel Bread

At my local Harris Teeter, I had the choice of a couple of breads. We tried Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Bread. Forming a complete protein from the six grains and legumes in the bread, it provides a very nutritious source of 18 amino acids.

Ingredients: Organic Sprouted Whole Wheat, Filtered Water, Organic Malted Barley, Organic Sprouted Whole Millet, Organic Sprouted Whole Barley, Organic Sprouted Whole Lentils, Organic Sprouted Whole Soybeans, Organic Sprouted Whole Spelt, Fresh Yeast, Organic Wheat Gluten, Sea Salt.

Ezekiel bread is dense and not as soft as our regular bread. I tried the bread with ham, cheese, mayo, and grey coupon and found that it was not as sweet as we would prefer. However, by adding a vinaigrette sauce that was lightly sweetened, we found that it was a lot better. I think it would taste good with hummus, too. Because we’re used to bread that is softer, we decided to make grilled cheese sandwiches. These were very good!

Ezekiel BreadWe also tried Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Pasta. Cooking takes a few minutes less than regular white pasta, making it very convenient for a quick meal. The directions are very specific regarding the cooking time of 4 to 5 minutes. It has a slightly nutty taste and the texture isn’t as smooth as white pasta. With regular spaghetti sauce, the flavor and texture didn’t seem to compliment as well. Because of this, I found that I preferred it combined with other foods that worked with the texture. It was good with olive oil, onions, garlic, pepper, and cheese. I loved the fact that I didn’t feel 10 pounds heavier after eating it! I love pasta and would like to eat it more often, but I often find that my body just feels sluggish and heavy after eating white pasta.

We’ve had this bread before… My kids thought it was a little dry with PB&J, but they liked it with grilled cheese. And I like all of its health benefits!

Thank you for the review! Since my son seems to have a slight intolerance to gluten, I wonder if he would be able to eat this? I will have to try it. Thanks!
