EVOL Foods Review and Prize Pack Giveaway

Beginning in 2002, a University of Denver graduate named Phil Anson began the first stages of developing his brand Phil’s Fresh Foods. His story is that of determination and dedication. He began by selling fresh burritos to mountain climbers in Eldorado Canyon, Colorado. As his burritos drew the attention of stores such as King Soopers and Whole Foods in his region, he continued to make hundreds of fresh burritos each week. By 2008, he began making frozen burritos and interest of stores grew quickly.

Evol Foods LogoIn 2009, Brendan and Tom of Bear Naked invested in Phil’s Fresh Food and created a new brand name: EVOL Burritos. Within months, EVOL took the #2 market share for natural frozen burritos and their products were distributed among 1,500 stores across the nation.

Today EVOL is showing its leadership and commitment by providing natural and organic products. Cheese is rennet and rBGH-free and their sources for meat only provide humanely and sustainably raised beef, pork, and chicken. They only include ingredients that are essential to their recipes.

Don’t be surprised if you start seeing EVOL in your best friend’s freezer, wrapped in foil at yo mama’s house or on your officemate’s desk, enticing you at lunchtime. – EVOL Foods

Review of EVOL Foods

Matt said to me a few weeks ago, “I could eat pizza everyday.” You can imagine his excitement when I opened the freezer and showed him the variety of pizzas, wraps,  burritos, and flatbreads that EVOL Foods provided us for a review.

EVOL Foods Review

The first item we selected to try was the Meatballs & Mozzarella Pizza. As Matt was eating one of his slices, the mozzarella stretched several inches and he said, “Now, this is real cheese. That imitation stuff just won’t do that. It won’t stretch like that!” The pizzas and flatbreads were not layered in grease and two medium slices were filling for a meal.

The wraps and burritos were very good. Have you ever cooked a burrito in the microwave and then became disappointed when the contents spill out onto the plate? Probably doesn’t matter anyway because most frozen burritos are just some kind of dull, bean or cheese stuff. Here’s what the Fire Grilled Steak Fajita by EVOL Foods contains: Fire-grilled steak, roasted peppers, onions, cilantro lime rice, black beans, cheddar cheese and an authentic roasted corn tomatillo salsa. To top that off, the flour tortilla is tasty!

A family member came over for lunch so I made the vegetarian Goat Cheese, Pesto Portabella and Grilled Chicken Roasted Veggies Flatbreads.

I’d like to point out a section of the the EVOL Food website that I found helpful when preparing my selection of foods. If you visit the Ways to Cook section of their website, you’ll find detailed suggestions and videos for how you can prepare your foods. There is also a list of wine pairings and salads. We used the oven for the flatbreads and pizzas. For the wraps and burritos, we preferred the toaster oven. They were fantastic right out of the microwave, but we found a little extra crunch just made them even better.

Our Favorite EVOL Foods

Of each of the products we were able to try, my favorite was the BBQ Chicken Mozzarella Flatbread that had the following ingredients: Fire-grilled white meat chicken, mozzarella cheese, chopped green onion, cilantro and BBQ sauce on top of a stone-fired artisan flatbread.

Matt, the one that normally refuses to eat onions, liked the Italian Sausage Caramelized Onion Flatbread that had the following ingredients: Thinly sliced mild Italian sausage, mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions, roasted garlic and extra virgin olive oil on top of a stone-fired artisan flatbread.

If you’re looking for some frozen foods that are not only natural, but are also tasty, visit the EVOL Foods website. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Also, be sure to check out their point program so that you can get a free T-shirt.

Hmm! I think I’d probably serve some green beans or corn; I think the foods you showed are already pretty complete meals on their own though!
