Matt and I are both trying to cut back on beverages that are loaded with extra calories, caffeine, and sugar. I was looking for healthy alternatives and found Chia Squeeze Vitality Snacks by Mamma Chia.
Founded by Janie Hoffman on a rural San Diego farm, Mamma Chia was the first organic, chia-based food and beverage company. They are a member of 1% for the Planet, a global network of businesses, nonprofits and individuals that have given over $175 million dollars back to the environment. They are also a founding member of Slow Money. They support healthy, local food systems and help organize national, regional, and local activities for small food enterprises.
Each Chia Squeeze beverage has organic chia seeds that have been infused with fruits and vegetables and packed in a squeezable package. There are six flavors: Blackberry Bliss, Wild Raspberry, Green Magic, Mango Coconut, Strawberry Banana, and Cherry Beet. Their small size makes them easy to pack into lunches and backpacks.
My favorite flavor is Chia Squeeze Strawberry Banana. It has 1200mg Omega-3s and has only 70 calories. This flavor also has 70mg of potassium and 4g of fiber. I was surprised to see that each of the flavors did not have any added sugar. The sweetness comes from the fruit and vegetable purees. The chia beverages reminded me of homemade smoothies, but without the hassle of having to wash a blender. The chia seeds add a fun texture. I also like that they taste good at room temperature or right out of the fridge.
You can find Mamma Chia products at Amazon, Thrive Market, Whole Foods, Kroger, Target, Walmart, Ralphs, Aldi, Safeway, and more stores.
