In July, we celebrated the first birthday of our kittens Raven, Slash, and Backslash. As you can see from the photo above, they love to take over our furniture. We decided that the perfect gift would be a new cat tower from Pet Smart.
We had a few features that we wanted for their new tower.
We wanted a tower that would allow them to look out the windows.
With four large cats, we needed something that could hold their weight.
3) Scratching Post
Mama Grace loves to stretch up and scratch on furniture, so we wanted part of the tower to have a post.
4) Sleeping Area
5) Around $100 or Less
We used a coupon at Pet Smart. We had visited their store and received a coupon with our receipt for a Family & Friends event. I believe the salesperson said that they do the event twice per year. We purchased a Whisker City Kitty Cave Playground Cat Scratcher.
As soon as we brought the assembled tower home, the cats were all over it. We eventually moved it behind a piece of furniture to keep it stable. We keep a corner of the tower wedged under the furniture so that the tower doesn’t tip over. Although they can easily make the jump from the floor to the top of the tower, they prefer to climb up the carpeted post.
One of Mama Grace’s favorite activities is jumping through the tunnel on the tower. In this photo she was playing with a toy mouse and throwing it though the tunnel. With multiple levels, the tower provides sleeping spaces for more than one cat. This also allows them to jump around and play.
Six months later, the tower is still holding up well. We expect that we will have to replace the carpeting on it within a few years. We have one cat that is chewing the carpeting on the base of the tower. Normal scratching on the carpeting is not showing damage, though.
We will likely purchase another tower in the near future. One plus with this particular tower is that it comes with beige carpeting. It’s easy to locate towers that have the same shade of carpeting so that everything coordinates.
